Join Dr Chris Tuckley for a virtual walk around the village of Eyam in Derbyshire.
Our collection of That JORVIK Viking Thing field trips have all been recorded around the boundary between Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, which in the early medieval period is where the kingdoms of Mercia and Northumbria met. A number of ancient markers of this boundary remain in the landscape and can be visited today; some are natural, and some are man-made. The field trips take in the dramatic Stanage Edge, Higger Tor and Carl Wark, and two stunning examples of early medieval sculpture found nearby.
As part of JORVIK Viking Festival, York Archaeological Trust used to organise coach tours around sites of historic interest. With travelling not possible this year, we hope these short films will give you a little taste of places that plays a role whilst the Vikings occupied Northern England.
